The ankle snap is important. For perfect technique see the vid that I put up of Billy bunnyhopping to the concrete planter. There's a slo-motion version too.

There are actually 3 different techniques one can use to bunnyhop, while all are quite effective two stand out above the rest.

1) Ride at an object and pull the front wheel up so it's higher or almost as high as the object, as the front wheel gets to the object "throw" the rest of the bike up.

This technique is the one most people use, you'll never get much higher than a picnic table with this technique and it's only good for going to both wheels.

2) Ride at an object, as you get closer drop your hips back and down so your butt almost scrapes your seat. As your front tire starts to come up snap yourself straight up and snap the bars to your hips. Then pick the bike up and place it in front of you on the object.

This is the cantilever method and is quite effective, this is the version you see when you watch the Billyhop video. This works best with bikes with longer chainstays and is most effective for shorter riders.

3) Ride at the object and as you get closer you pull the bike back onto the rear wheel. You need to get the rear wheel very high so as to reach your balance point. As this happens you squat very low over the rear wheel as though you were going to manual. When you get to your balance point you leap straight up then pull the bike after you.

This is the most effective method but also the most difficult to learn. If you watch the TRA videos this is the method he uses for his japslaps and his bunnyhops on his Koxx. Now that he's on an echo he does the cantilever style bunnyhops.

The biggest difference between methods 2 and 3 are how high the front end comes when you start the motion and how much you bend your legs. In method two you khave very little leg bend and your front end doesn't have to come up very high before you launch. In method 3 the front end comes up very high and you have a great deal of leg bend.

Methods 2 and 3 are both good for going to rear wheel, method 3 makes it difficult to go to both wheels.

Hope this helps.

STU

ps. the ankle snap is important in all methods but leg bend depends on the method.

(as posted sa PMTB)

i'm just sharing this article taken from BMX PLUS (applicable also on MTB)... many are asking how to bunnyhop so maybe this article could help you out!!!! thanks!!!!

ARTICLE: Sometimes i think we forget just how frustrating learning to bunnyhop was. We hear from many riders about their troubles and aggravations with one of the most basic yet fundamental tricks in BMX, and it serves as a huge reminder of how much time we once spend banging out heads against the wall for the seemingly impossible. So how long did we spend dialing in our bunnyhops? Fifteen years and counting. The way we see it, you can always learn to go a lottle higher. When we are asked if there is a secret to the trick, or a way riders can vastly improve upon their current skills, we reply with the single word, "PRACTICE." It may not be what you want to hear, but take it all the way to the top of the game and you will find it's what even the best riders do every day, to improve upon their skills, even bunnyhops. For this reason we decided to take "On The Move" back to the basics, to help you beat the frustration of learning, and push then push your 'hopping skills' to the limit.

ARTICLE: Bunnyhopping is a mind game, so having a positive, light and a right-thinking mind will help you that much more. When bunnyhopping, it dosen't really matter hoe fast you go until you start hopping over or up things. Start with compressing into your bicycle (mountain bikers refer to this as "pre-loading"). As soon as you are compressed into your bicycle, you'll want to explode upwards, giving a yank, pull, heave or whatever you prefer to call it as high as you can. When you pull up, pull the bars towards your stomach and then push them away from your body so that your bike does an arching wheelie, bringing the seat between your knees. Quick reminder! When pulling up, give your wrists a slight rotation forward, this will help level the bike after you've pulled it into a wheelie and off the ground. Make sure not to be afraid to get that seat as close to your noggin as you can, meaning you want to be tuck once you've pulled that bike off the ground. When coming in for the landing, just gnetrly set her down as an airplane by lowering the back end, followed by the front. That should be able to get you doing the bunnyhops you've always wanted to do.

Julius yung hatak mo pala bitin... kulang sa lundag, naisip ko lang kasi wala sa hips mo ang bars sa moment na lumundag ka. Mukha kaya mo na gawing lampas lampas sa stage kung ma practice mo ang lundag mo.

Dun sa 2nd to the last image mo kasi mukhang launching move na.
